Members mate_stubb
I've got my little system up and running. Instead of showing pretty pictures, I'm weird and will show assembly and wiring. I'm primarily a keyboard player, so I wanted light, compact, powerful, and versatile. Thanks to lots of help on this forum, here it is. 2 back trees, each with 2 Scan LED 300s and 2 Q12+. The scanners come off on O clamps and everything is pre-wired. Front trees are short arms with 2 Q12+ each. These are also pre-wired. If I were to consider expanding, it would probably be here where I could go to a standard length bar. I use a dmx splitter for simpler wiring, and DMXIS for control. The hazer is currently just running on its timer.
Members stunningbabe
Wonderful! I have wished that more people will post photos of their setup instead of merely posting photos of the lights in action.Wow...you are a Keyboard player...and you have this setup for yourself??Won't your other band members feel left out on stage? LOL!
Members soundlight
Now that is one slick setup. Very nice & compact rig design, showing that you don't need a big truss to have a nice rig. Nice to see the wiring & setup so others can learn. Definitely post some action pictures when you have it programmed!
Members Mutha Goose
Very nice. Your back lights are a very powerful, compact combination. You can do a lot with that in a small space. Very nice.I have mine pre-wired in a very similar manner. It saves a lot of time at set up. Next you have to go wireless... :-)

Members Chaff67
Great pics mate stubb. Very nice set up!A little OT but I have a question for you and our other light guys. I noticed in the pictures that you don't use any safety cables. For smaller set ups is it common not to use them? My light trees are pre-wired also. They are kept hanging in our trailer in between uses. Since mine are used for church services and it could be any of our many volunteers who sets them up, the bolts may not get inspected for tightness every week (although I do inspect them most weeks). I wrap the safety cables around all the par cans to catch them in the unfortunate event the bolts come off.
Members StratGuy22
I'm planning on using them. I can make whatever length of cable I want, at work, rated for 1000lbs, but they aren't certified. The shortest ones you can buy seem to be 18" which is quite long if you ask me, and rated for 750lbs. But actually certified, which is better in my books. Members mate_stubb
Resurrecting this ancient thread about my system to update. Going to a Blizzard garage sale is very dangerous. I drove several hundred miles to Blizzard HQ a couple of weeks ago and scored big. My system has now been enhanced by 4 Stiletto Z7 zoom wash movers, 4 SnowBank blinder/wash lights, and 2 HighBeam narrow beam color changers. I'm adding a third back center tree to hold the extra lights, except the SnowBanks. Two of those will be audience blinders and two will be side wash. No pictures yet alas, still waiting on my new stand and clamps to come in.
Members soundlight
That's a serious rig update! Those Z7s will be a really nice back wash, especially with the zoom. Post pictures when you get it all up and running!
Members StratGuy22
Might be time to move to a truss system. Be sure to post pics of everything. For the record I use safety cables on everything now. The 18" ones work fine.
Members stevegarris
Wow - Hadn't seen this thread. Both those scanners on that amber scene look amazing!
Members mate_stubb
Well poop. When I replace one of my Q12s on the back bar with a zoom wash mover, the tbar is too heavy to lift. My crank stand only cranks the middle section, but the top section must be raised by hand. Ideas?
Members soundlight
That probably means it's over the weight limit, time to get some truss! I'd recommend (2) ST132s with triangle truss. You may be able to go with the 9" triangle if your rig is light enough and your span is short enough. Make sure to check load ratings.
Members mate_stubb
If I get truss, does that mean it's no longer a 1 man setup? How do you crank up truss - both sides at once?
Members soundlight
It's much much easier to have 2 people - one on each crank - and also 2 people to put the truss on the crank stands. Those are the only 2 times you'd need that other person - to put the truss up and then to crank it out.
Members mate_stubb
I ordered a couple of ST-132 stands tonight. They will crank all the way up and not require me to lift the top section by hand like my current stands. I'll put off the truss vs T bar decision and stay with T bars for a start. 10 new fixtures and a wireless system later, I'm tapped out for now. Members StratGuy22
Nice. I use 2" triangle truss, 11" I believe. Two 8' sections.
