There's nothing wrong with bridging an amp, as long as the amp itself can take it. The fault usually lies with the operator of said amp.

 

Scenario: you have an amp powering two 8 ohm speakers, one per side. You decide you want to run said amp at 4 ohms bridged, running the two speakers in parallel. You figure, "hey! more power!" It works for awhile and then an uncontrolled wave of feedback zaps your drivers.:( Lotsa times people overpower their stuff.
