Members fingerpicker
I recently aquired a Soundcraft 1000st Gigrac powered mixer. When I turn it on, the fans are pretty loud for about 3-5 seconds, then they quiet down. Is this something to be concerned with? I have used it a few times and it works fine, and the speakers aren't putting out any extra noise. Anyone else own this unit and can tell me if it's just the normal way it powers up? Members David Mitchell
I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that a similar technique is used in some computers. Most fans require a much higher start-up voltage than they need to keep running, so a fan controller might send full power briefly before switching to thermal sensor control. If the idle fan speed is very low, this technique is essential to the fan starting up. It's even more important in colder temperatures.
