GC will sell me these (pair) for $400 out the door. These will strictly be used for the rehersal room for my band. $400 is as much as I can spend. What do you think - is this a fair deal or could my money be spent better on something else.

Yeah, they're worth it. At very least, they're much better than a lot of stuff in that price range.

PRs are available almost eveywhere and the price is about what other discount retailers are charging for that box, so don't rush out to GC to buy them because you're afraid the deal will evaporate.

FWIW, PSSL has a set of the 12s in thier outlet for $140.

And, yes, occasionally better deals on higher quality boxes do pop up.

Yep, if you keep your eyes open you can get some good stuff for cheap. I bought a pair of EV FM-1202 wedges for two hundred bucks. They're old and heavy but they're very efficient and relatively smooth. For two bills I can't complain.

* 15" high-precision LF driver

* Low-frequency over-excursion protection

* 1" compression driver

* 180W LF amp / 60W HF amp

* XLR Mic/Line input and pass thru

* 3-Band EQ with Sweepable Mid for clarity (with bypass)

* High SPL Output/Low Distortion

* Ideal for pole-mounting or stage monitor position

* Tough, impact-resistant polypropylene enclosure

* High-density adiabatic fiberfill absorbs internal reflections

Looks like a low powered version of an SRM450 with a cheap 15'' woofer instead of a high quality 12''. Less power usually means less heat however. Let's hope this will translate into better reliablility and less thermal failures from the ''award winning'' Mackie active team. :D Al
