Members sharnrock
What kind of equipment do you use while triggering a kick drum? It is midi right? Can you use a "midi brain" that only does kick sounds or do you have to buy the whole kit? Thank you for your time.
Members rxnet
best kick trigger IMO is the DW xlr ones...hook it up to the Alesis D5 brain and yah got yourself a pretty decent kick...there are better brains out there but for the money (arounnd $200 used on e-bay) they're not bad. Just used a trigger system this weekend on my son's set....I got more compliments on his sound then anything else....though it was hooked up through a Yorkie LS800 sub...made his small 18" kick sound like a 24 with no problem. Only thing I would have done different was add a condensor for the cymbals...they were a little in the background for my taste....
Members Black Frog
I actually thought the Alesis D4 had better sounds than the D5. Years ago I owned a D4 and sold it when the D5 came out. I was a little disappointed. Both are easily found used for cheap.

Members gearmike
I toured for years with a D4 as my secret weapon. The Ddrum triggers are the best out there if you want to trigger of the real drum. Many times we would just use a Roland Electronic Kick Beater thingy. -Mike
Moderators MarkGifford-1 Posted February 7, 2007 Moderators Share Posted February 7, 2007 I use a 57, stuck in the hole. Triggers flawlessly, that way the drummer still thinks I'm using a mic, instead of triggering my D4... MG
