Can a powered mixer be used as a power amp?

yes, he's being serious.. some units might even have a 'power amp input' on the front, which usually just uses the master volume control, but if you run into a channel, then you can take advantage of the EQ and such as well (in small doses...) We ran our monitors like that back east in one band I was in.

I mean, it makes sense..


just plug the output of the unpowered mixer into the input of the powered mixer..


I just don't wanna end up blowing anything up though..

I do this too.

 

We ran our monitors like that back east in one band I was in.

 

Powered mixers are very versatile. They are ALL the PA you need for small gigs (lounge duo, for example), and they can power your monitors in bigger situations.

Except most of them don't have enough channels for an actual band setting.
