Which Mic would work best for me?

Ok crew..

To save me from trying to describe my singing style and vocal "qualities" :) I'm just gonna go ahead and post a couple of songs. two from a demo CD I made late last night and one from a full band gig about a month ago.

on the demo track, both tracks(guit & vocals) were recorded at the same time.

vocals were through an MXL 770 Condenser through a presounus blue tube.

pretty big eq boost at 100hz (I think it added a good bit of roundness to my voice that wasn't there before) slight reverb and I think that is it. (late last night.. remember)

no idea about effects, eq or anything else with the live clip.

(Be NICE! :) )

I'm looking for a dynamic mic to use for live vocal applications.

It'll be for solo gigs as well as with a full band.

I'm hoping that some of you pros/experts/folks who have mice many many different vocalists may have some good ideas on what might work best for me.

One of the things in the clip that comes through that I'd like to try and change is the harshness. I'm not sure if it is my voice or the mic (maybe some of both)

I'd like a mic that sounds very crisp with nice presence and possibly helps with that 100hz boost that I think my voice needs. (if such a monster exists)

Since this will be used for solo gigs I'll listen to any price ranges although I can't see spending much more that 250 bucks.

Many Thanks!!

Will

I really do think that you would love working with a Shure beta 87 A. It is similiar to the crown C-311, and is also a condensor mic, requiring pahntom power, but is a hand held (or regular mic stand) type of mic.

PS the best place to buy mics new is from Northern Sound and Light.

I have actually used a beta 87a before. it was a while back and while I didn't really a/b it closely with anything else, i remember it feeling too sensitive.

I appreciate the replies greatly!

I'm thinking after maybe a few more suggestions i'll head up to my LMS (local music store) and actually compare some of them.

anyone else?
