Members LedZep1985
I've been hosting an open mic with a friend at a coffeehouse here on Long Island a little more than a month. I'm currently using the house mics, which are 2 SM58s. I currently own one SM58 myself, but would like two more mics for live use as my friend and I are looking to expand to running feature shows in the area with primarily acoustic acts. I would like mics that are equally capable of having a nice, warm tone for vocals as well as an acoustic guitar if the guitarist needs their acoustic mic'd. What are good choices for what I'm looking for?
Members Coaster
57 and 58 are a good start.
Members Gordon Sound
For accoustic Jams I never use " duo purpose mics" I pack a couple of cheapo behringer c-2's and a cheapo promag pick-up for the accoustic inst. They all pick-up better than a 57. and are cheap enough I dont care if the drunks spill them over

Members formula428
+1 for the SM58. It's a great mic.
Members TimmyP
SM58: Over-rated for over 40 years, and still going strong. Give me an OM3, E835, 767a, PL80a (now on special $150 for three).
Members heath_eld
SM58 or Beta 58 if you want to spend a little more (esp for female vocals IMO). There are definitely other good mics, but the shures are popular for a reason...
Members bilbo71070
Gotta second the OM3 from Audix. It's my goto mic.
Members NUSound
SM58: Over-rated for over 40 years, and still going strong. I'll give you the last 20, but not the first 20. The 57 is a a good workhorse mic though.
Members agedhorse
I spent some time with the E835 last night, and I still prefer the 58. The 835 was awfully bright in the 3-5kHz range for my tastes.

Members cephus
I bought an EV raven used for $99 a while back and that thing is pretty good for acoustic guitars. http://www.proavmax.com/Electro-Voice-RAVEN-Dynamic-Condensor-Mic-p/ev-raven.htm It's not so great for vocals because it has no pop filter. Worse than a 57 I think. I also record with it. It's a great amp mic.
Members Tomm Williams
Look at the EV 967 or Senn 935. Both can be had for under 200.00 and sound much better than a 58. As far as micing the acoustic, I would lean towards a SDC. AT pro 37, MXL 603 or sm81. Enjoy and Merry X-mas
