I am once again, in the market for active subs and I am wondering if anybody has been able to A/B the 518 and 718. I am planning on sticking with JBLs because I an using 512 tops and love them. Members gonzobassman Posted December 31, 2009 Members Share Posted December 31, 2009 Not shure,but I think the 718 offers more power,and the "top of the line" JBL 18" driver.I believe I read on here the other day that it is the same driver as the SRX/VRX series!A/B them.If what I just said is true,the difference should be obvious! I have played 4 gigs with the new subs and I am very happy with the results, I use MRX512's tops too. They go low and have more punch. Easier to move and pack 2 subs. There's a guy in Muskegon MI that had or has 2 for sale last week for $1,200 for a pair. Also if you need more bottom end you can rent SRX718's easier. Maybe a 1.5 to 1. Andy -- what about someone going from Eon 518s (baby brother of PRX518s) to the PRX-718s? Mine is being shipped tomorrow -- direct from JBL. I'm expecting a 1.6 to 1 difference......LOL Big difference in the amp spec (1400 w peak vs. 1000 watt peak) Huge difference in the woofer used (almost as good as SRX or VRX quality). Not sure where you are going with this but the Eon 518s I've heard practically fall into the JRX arena. No comparison at all to the MRX/PRX518. I am happy overall with my MRX518s but I am looking to go powered so that is why I am trying to compare the 518 to 718. I am running the 518s with a Crown K1 so either PRX would probably be a slight step up and I can lose that old dinosaur amp and lighten my rack by 40 pounds or so. Not sure about the amps but the Eons are molded plastic and the PRXs are wood. The 1400 watt to 1000 watt comparison doesn't mention efficiencies. That can make a huge difference in perceived and real sound. I believe the 718 uses the same driver as the SRX. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
