Members 1tribe
Well its all about to be released in about 10 hours at Namm but I found this on Crowns website: http://www.xlsruntheshow.com/ Looks like another very light amp simular to the new Peaveys. Weighs less than 11 pounds. Hmmmm......my sub amp is a 45 pound QSC 2450! Time to change!
Members RoadRanger
It will be interesting to see how it compares on price and features with the Peavey IPR's .
Members SoundMan
Pfft, it weighs twice as much as ours. :poke:
Members Rezrover
Probably costs that too.
Members srp72ee
Everyone is coming out with their lightweight class D amps. The Peavey warranty is usually better than the Crown. I've also had better luck with Peavey tech support.
Members RoadRanger
Pfft, it weighs twice as much as ours. :poke:Website sez less than 11 lbs for the new XLS's . Also it appears to be a DSP amp? Peavey hasn't shipped any of their DSP models yet and what I've seen of their feature set I'm a bit disappointed. OTOH the DSP in the XTi's sucks too. Neither have a fully adjustable limiter and while it's possible the IPR DSP's have limiting in the presets it isn't user adjustable at all? The IPR DSP's also have no computer interface - perhaps we'll see if the XLS has one later today . Without a computer interface is the firmware in the IPR DSP updateable or do you have to buy a new amp if you upgrade your speakers to ones that aren't in the preset list? As amps can last 20 years that's a serious problem - I suspect there are doing to be a LOT of new speakers released in the next twenty years . Members SoundMan
If it doesn't end up with an adjustable limiter in it, it's not because we didn't want it in there. It'll be because of hardware limitations, we are trying to hit a pricepoint;). I don't think it's 100% decided yet, so you might want to wait until you see the final product, your call. I know the hardware chip used can do limiting and I'm guessing it will on the presets. Yah, hopefully it's just another screwup to have put the preliminary (and obsolete?) menus and photos for the DSP version in that manual and the final version will have a USB port to make it at least the equal of an XTi but maybe with fully adjustable limiters ? CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted January 14, 2010 CMS Author Share Posted January 14, 2010 I'm holding out for an amp that's so light it actually makes objects around it lighter. Until then, no deal!
Members RoadRanger
I'm holding out for an amp that's so light it actually makes objects around it lighter. Until then, no deal!Well, these are light enough to go in those lightweight plastic racks so they actually do lighten your naked racks by 10+ lbs . You can stick three of them in a shallow 6U rack and still carry the whole thing with one hand !
Members stix 518
As long as the lighter amp doesn't have a strange dialect, I'm voting for it! Stix
Members 55fmj
I got an e-mail from guitar centers on monday telling me that they had several available for purchase if I wanted to order one. Looks like a few are becoming available.
Members Norton666
VERY interesting. I actually really really like the XTI amps. Ive used them to death , sold a boatload of them and other than one amp that wouldnt go into stereo mode (right when the amps were released) I havent had a single issue. I havent gotten any info on these from our Crown rep. If they have a similar interface as the XTI's with a lower price point , they will be a hell of an amp imo
Members RoadRanger
As long as the lighter amp doesn't have a strange dialect, I'm voting for it! I seem to remember it has selections for both of the popular dialects - "Mandarin" and "Cantonese" .
Members RoadRanger
I actually really really like the XTI amps.Other than the limited limiters they are pretty good. It's unclear if the new XLS will replace both the old XLS and XTi lines but it does have a display on it that implies it has DSP?
Members srp72ee
...but it does have a display on it that implies it has DSP? The display might be used to say "Welcome" and "Good Bye..." during power up and power down. :poke:
Members RoadRanger
The display might be used to say "Welcome" and "Good Bye..." during power up and power down. :poke: Or maybe "You shoulda bought a Peavey" .

Members SteinbergerHack
At 11 lbs, I might be replacing a couple of amps..... The money I save on chiropractor visits would pay for the swap-out.

Members SoundMan
Yep, they're based on the IPR's, but there are differences.
Members Gregidon
Yep, they're based on the IPR's, but there are differences. I'm pretty surprised they included a sub-harmonic synth on a "pro" product. Are the dsp options going to be more in depth?
