Members monkeyland Posted January 27, 2010 Members Share Posted January 27, 2010 we all have to make some cables and such periodically and therefore everyone has a soldering iron around, probably a few broken ones also. i've been using the standard orange weller that can be found at most ace hardware stores for the last few years and i'm thinking of going for something a little better, yet still under 100 bucks. what do you guys like and why Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If I had to buy another iron, I'd hit up a couple of pawns until finding somethign that looks good. Having a unit to control the temp is often a promising sign. Members Coaster Posted January 27, 2010 Members Share Posted January 27, 2010 i have a few old archers from the 80's that work great and heat up faster than you would think they should. they are low wattage and yet solder 12 gauge to speakons quite easily.
