Members saxmaneddie
How are in ear monitors connected to a Mix Wiz board. Would I connect to the direct outs on the channel strip or the aux 1 through 4 outs? I am currently using 3 aux's for floor monitors. If a person wanted to hear only their voice would the direct out work?
Members Mogwix
Perhaps. It's better to use an aux to run any ears, in case that person happens to want guitar or anything else in their ears.
Members jwlussow
For in ears to work best, the ear buds should seal the ear canal. That means very little stage volume gets through. If someone only wants vocals in their IEM, then that is all they will predominantly hear. In my opinion, the IEM mix should include everything and each IEM user should have his own mix. The auxes are the best place to create the IEM mix.
Members TimmyP
Use an Aux even if they say they want only their voice, because at some point they will change their mind. If the IEM system has the "more me" feature, you can also use a pre-fade direct out from their voice (or instrument) channel. This allows them to change the balance between the aux mix and their voice.
