Members rcc2165 Posted September 4, 2010 Members Share Posted September 4, 2010 So I am in a rock band that gets heavy at times and although we have temporary mains which will be converted to monitors, I wonder how may watts should the mains I plan to purchase be if we plan to use a sub for the drums/bass. So the only thing through the mains will be vocals/guitar. The average venue would be maybe 200 people. The reason I ask is should I get something with more watts that is not as higher-end (e.g., Mackie Thump) or go for the JBL Eons at 280 watts per speaker. Pricing the speakers he is considering, it looks like the budget is no more than $1,000 for the pair. You'll need to find a used deal or increase budget. "Full on band speakers for 200" isn't something an entry level speaker is going to do well. Minimum would be QSC K series. JBL PRX, the new Yamaha powered poxes, The new QSC's, RCF 4 series, FBT Maxx and the powered offerings from EV would all be contenders, but you're looking at at least $800 each.
