Yorkville Paraline and LS2100P - not too shabby!

I heard the Yorkville Paraline top boxes paired with the Yorkville LS2100Psubs  last night. I was on a gig with Boy Katindig https://www.facebook.com/boykjazz?group_id=0 Great player. Anyway, I got to hear the system when the warm act was on.  Big huge bottom and very clear mids and highs.  Maybe almost too smooth?  The highs didn't seem very aggressive. Perhaps I've heard too many borderline shrill systems and can't appreciate when mids and highs are balanced.

There also might have been a bit of a hole between the Paraline's and the 21" speaker but that's probably why there's a 15" Paraline sub.  All in all though, it was a very nice system.  And it seemed like there was headroom for days.  I've heard a QSC PA (153 IIRC) in that room and would probably give the nod (at least on this gig) to the Yorkville one.  All things considered if I had the money I would probably take the plunge. It just seemed to purr along with no hint of a struggle, and we were playing pretty loud fusion Jazz stuff with a few vocals thrown in.

But the seeming lack of sizzle, is that just me or my ears? I wonder if that's just what flat sounds like :)

Way back in my youth I shared a house with three or four other guys. It was party central, indoor hockey games at three in the morning and so on.  One of the guys had a fairly decent stereo - Sansui or something like that. Back in those days I would always have the loudness switch on. Then my buddy would walk into the room and turn it off - he couldn't stand all the added bottom and top, and I liked it the other way around.  Luckily, years later I saw the light, and now find it hard to listen to a hyped PA.

I guess the Paralines just sound like someone's turned the loudness switch off. Probably a good thing.

Was there one or two paralines per side?

About $7k for a set of 4 tops...

There were two Paralines a side, and one LS2100P a side. The room has about 300 soft seats with about a 400 person capacity. It didn't seem or sound like the system was even close to breaking a sweat. And although the picture makes the room look small, it was pretty big, and wide with sound sucking carpet and treatment everywhere http://www.edgewatercasino.ca/private-functions/

But the price is steep, and for something that probably isn't rider friendly.  Although I don't know... maybe it's not as much of an issue in some places or locations. I'm so low down the line, at my level I don't even see equipment riders, so a Paraline would be like Nexo to my "clients".

Speaking of riders... the story goes that Stompin' Tom Connors  (R.I.P.) had a gig in Ottawa (or somewhere like that) a few years back. The venue was talking to him in a panic because they hadn't received his rider. They were very apologetic and distressed. He said that he was pretty sure the rider had been sent and they again said no, we're really sorry there's no rider - just this note about two cases of Moosehead beer. Tom said, well we're okay then, that IS the rider. What a guy - he will be missed.

I don't know how rider friendly my U15's are, but it hasn't been an issue yet. For me, I'm thinking of doubling up my U15's over LS800p's and possibly retiring the ones I have to backup duty. I haven't needed to double up, yet, but I'm doing grad this year and I will double up for coverage. It will be nice to see my setup doubled and I'll see how I like it.
