Members djiceman1575 Posted March 22, 2013 Members Share Posted March 22, 2013 You all may have seen my topic asking for tips about the SR-X series of speakers...I got a chance to dig under the stage and look around...the system that was used before consisted of - 2 SR4733X's on a QSC PLX2402 stereo - 4 Yamaha SW118IV loaded with Eminence Omega Pro cabs on a QSC PLX3402 stereo There was also a QSC RMX2450 sitting around (from what I understand it was hooked to an HDH3 cabinet with a blown Black Widow and another Omega Pro driver...) After some looking around, I found a couple cabinets in the back...they turned out to be JBL AS1028-SP/2XP cabinets (dual 18")...Both had one blown JBL 2241HPL drivers + one Eminence Omega Pro (one of those was blown)...pulled the two JBL 2241HPL's out plus the bad Omega Pro, and swapped the good Omega's from the Yamaha cabinets into the AS1028's. So now, the system is set up and configured as - 2 SR4733X's on the PLX3402 stereo - 2 JBL AS1028's with Eminence Omega drivers, each on a QSC PLX2402 and RMX2450 in bridge mono There is also a set of JBL dual 8" mids and separate horn units hanging on the ceiling powered by a Peavey CS800. Those may be put on an aux send later on, as they are not really needed. The owner is planning on having the two 2241's reconed (I have a friend who is going to do that) and purchase another pair to put them back in the cabinets. But it will work for now.. Members RoadRanger Posted March 22, 2013 Members Share Posted March 22, 2013 Sounds good on the tops but 1200W into each 18" driver on the subs is gonna be adding to that pile of blown drivers methinks . If I was stuck using whatcha got I'd put the PLX2402 back on the tops and the PLX3402 back on the subs, one 2x18 per channel. How big is the venue anyways? I don't think I EVER ran out of SPL with them....Notch out the 4k honk they have just a little and they sound great. One of the few 2x15 cabs I truly like. With each amp running bridge mono, each pair is getting 2400 watts. I'm not 100% sure how Eminence rates their speakers, but they are 800w standard, 1600w music program, so I'm going to go with 800w RMS. They are being fed a clean signal with a limiter on a DBX Driverack set up so they don't go overboard. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's critical to verify the polarity of the entire signal path, the 2241 uses reversed polarity (assuming it retains the legacy standard of the 2200 series) and bridging sometimes inverts the signal depending on the amp architecture. I was doing an experiment on some basic common-emitter BJT amplifiers and found the output to be 180 degrees out of phase with the input... does your comment have something to do with that? Some folks would look at that pile of burnt up drivers and figure maybe pushing them hard didn't work out so good. Others need to learn the hard way . You may have just given me the answer to a problem with an old system at a local pub. It just doesn't sound right and they did have a few recones done a couple of months back.
