Members keys505 Posted March 13, 2013 Members Share Posted March 13, 2013 Is there anybody that works for a touring sound/production company that could tell me if there is much of a demand to run AES digital audio in concerts/stage etc more than a few hundred ft? for ex 1000,2000 ft etc..The reason I'm asking is I'm doing a little research to find out if there is any need for this, as it can be done over Fiber. Members agedhorse Posted March 13, 2013 Members Share Posted March 13, 2013 Good question. Yes, audio run between sources and amplifier rooms, broadcast remote bays, etc. can be very long. Fiber is one way, but Cat 5 is another option, Cat 5 handles AES/EBU quite well at distances of 1000 ft. Is it pretty common today for most stage/tour productions to be using CAT5 or Fiber to transmit audio due to distance? As apposed to conventional copper etc..
