Members ChiroVette
Okay, I know the two cable types look the same, but I was wondering if I could (or should) use standard XLR cables to control the new stage lights I have coming. I know little or nothing about this so I have a few questions, including this as well as do I need to invest in the same (or equivalent) nice quality DMX cables as I am for my sound system? Obviously I bought a ton of nice cables from PyleAudio and I need to buy more, and I wasn't sure if I should be spending a lot of money on nice DMX cables because I don't know if lights need the same good quality as cables used for sound. Thanks!
Members RoadRanger
Actually DMX cables should be of better quality than audio cables - besides the usual considerations they have to be of controlled impedance to be "right". You should also use a DMX terminator at the end of the "chain".

Members RoadRanger
Oh, and "real" DMX cables are five pin. The three pin "standard" is a bastard low end thing that seems to have dominated unfortunately. Lots of fun if you accidently feed DMX into one of your mic inputs .
