But as soon I took off the grill, it was obvious that the woofer was blown...the 'dust cap' (if that's the word) was ripped 3/4 of the way around. I removed the speaker from my other nx55p and put it in. It wroked fine. Speaker replacements are pricey and I don't know how to 'recone' yet. ha ha. But thanks. I now know what's wrong.
