Members loudsubz
Currently I have a pair of SX300 which sound great, but one of them needs a re-cone and at the same time I might as well do the other, so it will set me back around 220-250 for the pair to get them serviced. A local retailer is having a sale on ZLX-12 for $229 and was wondering if it would make more sense to go with the newer ZLX-12 or keep my SX300 and get them fixed? I have never heard the SX300 so I'm not sure how it would compare. Is it a big step down compared to my current speakers?
Members witesol
My opinion would be to keep the SX300, which is a great workhorse cabinet, one of the best utility cabs out there, over the newer ZLX. Your cabinets were $500-700 each...good stuff. i like the DH3 and the DH12 myself
Members agedhorse
C, the SX-300 uses the EVM or DL series LF driver which is a pretty robust driver. The only time a recone is needed is if it's been damaged or driven by too much power, especially without a HPF. Do you know what happened to the bad speaker?I am pretty sure the ZLX uses a lower quality LF driver, but when I heard them they seemed to be a pretty goos sounding speaker (for it's class). Members witesol
I'm pretty sure the SX300 will stomp the ZLX, those things are brutes
Members loudsubz
not sure what happened to them agedhorse, all I know was one of the surrounds had a small tear in it that I was able to fix with some rubber cement, but only as a temporary fix as I had planned to have them fixed properly.
