Members heath_eld
so I worked a new venue the other day, one where PA is supplied. Limited PA, but so far so good. I was to supply monitors and mics and leads. Speakers are active, roof mounted. Respectable brand. So, I’m in the process of setting up, and I’m setting up power to the desk and one of the staff let’s me know if I use my lead, I’ll end up with “feedback”. I assume this is the non-technical term for hum. They hand me a lead with the earth lifted. Now I don’t need to be told this isn’t safe. The question is, what’s the way forward that works for the venue and the band (it should be noted that although this is modern, current equipment, it has clearly been in service for a number of years - just saying “hey that’s not safe” isn’t likely to work. Is correcting the problem as simple as using an appropriate power cable and lifting the earth in the XLR connection to the speakers? (That’s safe, isn’t it?) Or is there likely more going on here?
