Members MrHarryReems
Can anyone recommend powered stage monitors that are both small and light? My back is done hauling young man's gear.
Members Dookietwo
What did you have in mind as far as "Small" and "light"? A 6 inch driver or a 15? Kind of a wide open question. For small and light I like these for GP bar band gigs. https://www.electrovoice.com/binary/SxA250%20EDS.pdf Or https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PV15PM--peavey-pv-15pm-200w-15-inch-powered-monitor?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI09_nr6uw2QIVT0sNCh0KBQPHEAYYAyABEgIsK_D_BwE
Members MrHarryReems
A 56lb 15" driver doesn't qualify as small or light... I'd prefer something in an 8-10" driver, at around 35lbs or less.
Members wesg
In that range, there is a ton of stuff. QSC K10s come to mind. But the lightest ones will be in-ears.
Members Voltan
the qsc k8's or k10's... the 8's have a bit better sound dispersion the 10's a bit more projection... there are a lot of similars out there...
Members Dookietwo
Now that we have a driver size and weight range what might your budget be?
Members RoadRanger
One of my bands has Behringer B208D's as monitors and they work fine. The drummer plays with his hearing aids out so we put his on a smaller speaker stand. 15 lbs each . OTOH I'd go with the newer B108D's now as I like their HF drivers slightly better. Moderators daddymack Posted February 19, 2018 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2018 There is also the near-field monitor approach...means extra mic stands though, but I get a set of four [1 powered Nady, 3 passive Galaxy Audio 'Hot Spots'] in a single container [with all the cables and a power conditioner] that weighs under 40 lbs. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/nady-pm-200a-powered-personal-stage-monitor/609027000000000?cntry=us&source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=Cj0KCQiAiKrUBRD6ARIsADS2OLkml3L_clyBMjgBEXtCmrTcmUYEEt8phHyQsodBmGXbhW-A4Uy0e0EaAk3hEALw_wcB&kwid=productads-adid^221957295803-device^c-plaid^323968811903-sku^609027000000000@ADL4MF-adType^PLA http://www.guitarcenter.com/Galaxy-Audio/Galaxy-Audio-HS4-100W-Passive-Compact-Personal-Hot-Spot-Stage-Monitorbr-1500000005596.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&gclid=Cj0KCQiAiKrUBRD6ARIsADS2OLlGduS3mlwYCQyhzU26dFNFvggDD8SSdkYF6RzsAK334TCMPKflT7AaAlO5EALw_wcB&kwid=productads-adid^57619015002-device^c-plaid^140858861541-sku^1500000005596@ADL4GC-adType^PLA
Members RoadRanger
I use a Mackie SRM150 "hotspot" type monitor in one of my bands for myself. I play bass but don't sing in that band and we use two Bose totem poles as the mains. I go direct and have my bass in one input of that monitor and feed the other input from the mains feed. This is the same band mentioned above where we also have four B208D's as monitors - we have a CF of 9 people on-stage (3 horns) .

This is actually for our bass player, and your circumstance sounds almost exactly like ours. We all go direct, and he needs a monitor to hear himself on stage. The rest of us are playing instruments with some acoustics. We're all 100% wireless, so there are no mic stands. We are actually using a pair of QSC K10's as our mains. Anything venue they're too small for has their own sound, including monitors.
Members RoadRanger
The backwash off the subs fills in the missing low end well enough for me and the monitor gives me note definition. I really have no personal desire for pants shredding, spleen homogenizing, vomit inducing bass . I did get to play through an SVT with a pair of 8x10 cabs the other day - strangely enough the volume control turns down as well as up, who knew ? But I will caveat that I do have good hearing unlike most musicians - I started wearing earplugs in the 70's.

Members RoadRanger
^ Those are awesome if you can afford them and/or need to light someone's head on fire. I'd not want to have one aimed at me close up LOL.
