Members RoadRanger
So, what do folks use to mount mics on them? The plastic clips don't really fit and space becomes a problem when using short boom stands .
Members Crownman
I mount the clips on the ring. If theres room I've also put the clips on the cymbal stands.
Members RoadRanger
They just don't seem to want to fit . No prob on "regular" drum rims.
Members Dogoth
The 604 style clips seem to fit most rims mounts. Although it's not quite as small & handy as the clip on style, check out LP Claws . They were the standard for 57s & 421s for years before the new crop of smaller mics. There are a couple of different lengths you can get. The longer ones will actually clamp to the bottom rim. Old school :-)
Members Unalaska
I keep 2-3 butterfly clips that have mic threads on them. They aren't as stable but do ok for drum hoops. In the last 2-3 years I've seen more accommodating hoops, change takes time.
Members RoadRanger
I should have also mentioned these have diecast rims - where there is no "edge" underneath to grab on to even if the floating mount wasn't in the way . Members TimmyP
The Audix ADX20d don't work on those things (w/o some gaff tape), but the Sennys I've used were OK.
Members RoadRanger
Well, $55.50 later I have a 3 pack of Shure A56D coming in, looks like they will clamp to the rims where the floating bracket isn't and the offset arm will still let you put the mic out of the way of the player? If they work out I'll get another 3 pack...
