Members Tomm Williams
I'm advancing a fairly big 4th of July bluegrass festival and have a question. In one of the acts, there is a fiddle player who only wants one mic for both his fiddle and vox. I was planning on using AKG 391's on instruments and Senn 935's on vox's. How is this best approached, let him sing into a 391?
Members Crownman
I would ask the guy if he sings or plays more of the time. If hes mostly playing and just singing some backups then use the 391, or vice versa.
Members agedhorse
935 or even something like a 58 and be done with it.
Members Bobby1Note
When he plays and sings, is he used to being right up on the mic? If not, I'm thinking he may sound a lil "thin" on some small-diaphragm mics, especially if he's appreciably farther back. Maybe a nice LDC like a C-414b-XLS, or an AKG 4000 series??? Stage noise is usually non-existant with those acts. .http://www.akg.com/C4000-872.html?pid=1027

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted April 23, 2014 CMS Author Share Posted April 23, 2014 Stick a '58 under his nose and call it done. Those guys usually know how to perform.
