Members nousername
http://kpr.craigslist.org/msg/4387906557.html Our area venues don't need thousands and thousands of watts, and there's not thousands of dollars to be made, so middle of the road gear is the usually the best bet. As long as it's reliable and sounds decent, it will be a good addition. Sure, a high end subwoofer is going to sound better, but it's almost always overkill. Economically, and sound quality wise. Dancing drunk chicks don't care what kind of sub we use. These are well rated on the web and seem like a great deal if they're plywood, not MDF even if I really only need one. I can always leave one at home, eh? We play rock at venues with capacity of up to 200. Tops are ELX 112P. We'll be running kick drum and maybe bass if the venue needs it. Complete rig (minus xover): http://boise.craigslist.org/msg/4379664721.html I don't recognize the cabs, though. The active cab I have been looking at is the ELX 118P. One of these would be an alternative to a passive system.

They're a short-horn loaded mid box, and the amp (in my opinion) happens to be one of the worst any reputable manufacturer has put together. Insanely high failure rate. Members nchangin
Head scratching here, if you already have active tops why do you want passive subs? ELX118P's are pretty good bang for the buck and you can find lot's of blemed.damage ones pretty cheap. with a warranty. I had one of those crown amps, bought it used, had a nice price, ce1000 was the model, it lasted 3 months. No warning, solid red light, that's it. And yes I admit I bridged it. Basically, these Peavey subs appeared the other day, and for about the price of one active sub, I could have two passive subs. Now, is the passive system going to sound better, have more punch, be more reliable, etc than the active sub? That's why I'm here.
Members monthlymixcd
There are several QSC powered speaker listing on CL in your area right now... a single KW181 for a grand and a pair of HPR153s with a single HPR181 for $1700. That single KW181 would be a good match for a pair of those EVs you have if you can swing the grand.

But only 29% off new seems high. Maybe the owner is open for some negotiation. I've read lots of people on this forum and others who love their KW. Wifey's out of town for a conference... Members agedhorse
Just get an active sub that matches up with your tops and be done with it. You are the ideal user for active speakers with all the important work done for you. Why make it harder, less reliable and worse sounding than it has to be to save only a few dollars? Members nousername
You guys are awesome. I was sure that "local conditions" wouldn't matter and buy once, cry once would be the only mantra.
