Members Consume
Hi everybody! Yep. I'm back, although not sure for how long. I tried using the search function on here...and..well.... it sent a shudder down my spine. I still read sometimes, but I haven't posted in what seems like forever. To say that I'm having a hard time with the switch at HC is a nice way to put it, although I haven't found a new home on the net. I've been quite busy working on my body (I took up bodybuilding, dropped a lot of weight, packed on muscle, and have been putting in 2 hours a day getting my voice back into shape. (Wow, I'm finally putting all those years of Opera lessons to use!) and I am now singing for a Symphonic Metal band.(look up Kamelot "Forever" on Youtube. That will give you an idea... in fact that its pretty much the prototype for what I am doing since I can sing all those songs quite easily.) Anyway. Let's talk Wireless Mic's. I'm going to be buying one in the next few months, but I am not sure what to get. I've been looking at the Sennheiser Wireless Condenser that runs for around $750(# ew165G3). Whatever happened about the frequencies being called in by the FCC for Cell phones and all of that? I mean, I don't want to spend $750 on a wireless mic only to be told by Uncle Sam that I can't use it because it interferes with cell phones or whatever. Thanks! Members Drummer44
You can find FCC's frequency allocations on their website, but generally you'll find that manufacturers don't offer any products that aren't currently legal. Wireless products with a wide range of frequency selection (like some of the Sennheiser products) seem safest, but then there's that pesky future out there, no crystal ball, etc. FWIW, my wirelss headmic is a Sennheiser ME3, and I think it sounds good. -D44
Members RoadRanger
I have a Line6 XD-V70 that's pretty awesome and uses a frequency that will remain OK. Beware of UHF mics, the 700MHz band is now illegal to use, and the 600 MHz band will be illegal in a couple years. You can gamble and buy something in the 500MHz band but no guarantees as to how many years before that becomes illegal too .
Members nchangin
found this on another forum so what about using white space? http://www.showmywhitespace.com/ So far my PGX is good in my area, however if I go to a area that is urban (city) the frequency of my mic (524 - 542 mhz) not allowed. Sure is confusing on what you can and cannot use for wireless mics. 700 Mhz definately illegal they are running medical and emergency on those frequencies. Members Tomm Williams
Go with the Line6, they sound great and digital should be safe for a long time.

Members cappttenron
I have recently purchased a Audio technica 3100 series in the I band. So far I am very impressed and I have not heard of them planning to auction off this lower frequency. I think this system for the price is hard to beat and I have been impressed by its range and clarity. The setup has been the easiest I have ever used. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a new wireless.
Members dboomer
Currently there is 222 MHz of bandwidth that is still "legal" to use in the UHF TV band (TV18 - 51). The current plan is to remove 120 MHz of it by 2021. It is expected that most of that will follow next year's auction of the 600's. You will have to share what's left of that with commercial TV broadcasts and the new crop of White Space Devices (which look a new Smart Phoneservice). Both Sennheiser and Audio Technica have released statements that they are doubtful the current crop of wireless will be able to work reliably after the 600's are re-assigned. Members dboomer
That band is currently restricted in a number of major metro areas. But you're OK on top of a mountain in Idaho.

Members bigbang
I had the Senny G3's and sold them all once I tried the Line 6 (L6 does sound like a corded mic). I now have six Line 6 units, and have only had an issue with one which was fixed under warranty. My only gripe with Line 6 vs Senny is the finish on the body of the mic is not nearly as durable, and the silver grills get nasty pretty quick as well.I was constantly changing freq's on the Senny's depending what club I was in. Line 6, set and forget.
