Members J.Paul
I don't get it. It's got a nice little riff a good hook tells a story isn't slow and brooding chicks dance to it fire away
Members moogerfooger
I do the song at every job. along with -- moondance, wild nights, into the mystic, and have i told you latelyVan is the man.
Members Terry Allan Hall
Great tune...my 2nd fave VM tune, with "Wild Night" being #1.
Moderators daddymack Posted December 18, 2012 Moderators Share Posted December 18, 2012 the problem is that every band everywhere has played that song to death. At one point the drummer in our blues band insisted we add it to our playlist...he's no longer with us. It isn't the song's fault, per se, it is, well... I blame society. Mustang Sally, Proud Mary, HOTRS, Stand By Me (sadly), My Girl (also sadly)...they have just been done so many times they have become, well ...trite, and to me playing them seems obsequious. Anyone who spent years in cover bands, especially playing 5 night strips for years, knows where I am coming from. There are songs you just don't want to ever have to play ever again. Members Loner
I like it, too. Plus I get to tell the Van Morrison story every time I introduce it: Do any of you know how Van Morrison got his unique first name? A: It was where he was conceived! Members pogo97
And there's the thing--Van wrote probably a dozen, maybe more, REALLY GREAT songs. And while all-but-one of those are generally tolerated, one is, apparently, required. Some of us don't think songs should be required.
Members nchangin
Kinda funny Wild nights, Brown eyed girl and proud mary were all songs in the last band I played in, I always wondered why, now I know, maybe it's just in our DNA now? Members nchangin
And how come no bass player can ever get that "wild nights" intro right? Why do they always improv it?
Members dparr
Somehow I still like "Brown Eyed Girl". It's every over-played Eagles song that I have a problem with.
Members jbviper4
I like it. Total mindless warm up song to get a sense of the crowd. Dont even have to think about playing it anymore.
Members SmileyGuy
I still like playing it and it always seems to go over. Almost any time during the night - no matter what set. It is "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" that I can't stomach anymore. But, whenever we drop it from the list it ends up getting requested. Ug!
Members Potts
Wow...refreshing that nobody ragged on it. I play it almost every gig too. I wouldn't listen to it if it came on the radio though.
Members Bobby1Note
I find it's a great song, as long as it's well played. The impact of the first few seconds of that song, make or break it IMO. You gotta be able to pull off the licks, and it's so much better when you have a good bass-player. If it's just strummed solo,,,, nah.
Members Tomm Williams
Nothing wrong with it at all. I don't think you can call a song "worn out" when it still gets such a positive reaction.

YES. Or Sharp-Dressed Man. Hurts So Good. So many others out there that are far more mind-numbingly monotonous and boring than BEG IMO.
Members Bob Dey
Never played it in any bands. It's a great song and that's why it's been overdone. Been playing it as a solo for about 20 years and try to play it with feeling every time. I do it very close to the original version.
Members davebols
Great song indeed. The first song I played out in a band was Gloria. I was 12 then and I've been a Van fan ever since.

Maybe they can but they choose not to...although judging by how many of them can't play the groove to "Play That Funky Music" right, maybe bass players just generally either don't care or have {censored}ty ears.I can play it right, and if I ever played that song at a show, I would play it right every time because I pride myself on that, but obviously your experience has been different because we've never met. Oh, and I still dig Brown Eyed Girl. It just has a stigma because it's been so overdone.Brian V.
Members J.Paul
wow ~ 14 hours later Deadly accurate responses from both Bob Dey and Dadddy Mack (although polar opposite perspectives)..... keep them coming.... I've been making albums for 20 years and haven't been subjected to "punching the timecard" with what should have been art~ until now.... Playing this song is a drag (according to you guys in 1,000 + other posts). Why?

You aren't one of my original bandmates? As to Brown Eyed Girl, I love the song and it is always sure to get my wife and I dancing. And from dancing who knows where the night will go? Members sventvkg
Nothing..If people like it and I like it I'll do it. There are so many good tunes out there that people like AND more importantly I like that it's not a problem. I just choose covers I dig and don't try to keep up with all the "popular" bull{censored} of the day..WHY, ya know? DRIVE ON
