My bass and vocal duo

Hey yall I just started a duo this month with a female gospel and jazz vocalist. We have had a few gigs and people seem to really like our stuff. I was worried that the music would be a little too "open" but people seem to really enjoy the duo of upright bass and voice. Some of the songs we have done are "hit the road jack", "feeling good" "stand by me" "L-O-V-E" and "At last". Do yall have any suggestions of possible song pics that might be good for our duo?

FD, welcome to the asylum....

In the same vein as Hit the Road Jack would be Why Don't You Do Right [Jessica's song in Who Framed Roger Rabbit]...also [You Give Me] Fever and Just My Imagination would work well, IMHO.

A number of old Patsy Cline tunes may lend themselves to this approach as well.

Vocal and bass is an interesting challenge for arrangement...I'm intrigued!

Hi Frank, first thing that popped into my head was These Boots Are Made For Walking or maybe come more up to date with Ceelo's Forget You. Both have strong easily recognised bass lines and I am guessing the latter would be a bit unexpected, which in my experience is always good mid gig.

Some songs that, maybe, the bass could carry that come quickly to mind:

Angel by Sarah McLachlan

Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby by Louis Jordan

It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got that Swing by Duke Ellington

Mr. Bassman by Johnny Cymbal

any sort of boogie woogie
