Members pogo97
Just checked the woodwind forum here and it's even deader than solo duo, so I'll ask you, Notes. Found this on Kijiji for $65. Now, I don't actually need an alto sax -- my daughter plays tenor -- but I'm curious whether this is a steal or a junker. The letters "ORD" on the bell may mean something to you, but not me.

Moderators daddymack Posted October 16, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 16, 2014 the brass is probably worth close to $65 Cdn... restoration costs can be brutal, though, but if it is mechanically sound, and just needs new pads, that looks interesting...I work with a lot of sax players, but sax is not one of my regular instruments, so... Paging Mr. Norton!
Members Notes_Norton
Sorry, I've been very busy lately with gigs and some new songs for those gigs, so I missed it. I clicked the link but it's sold. From the keywork it looks 1950s or so, and I don't recognize the keyguards so I don't know what kind of sax it is. ORD doesn't ring a bell, so it's not a major brand. Bottom line is I'd have to play it to see if it's worth $65 as an instrument or not. Members pogo97
S'okay, Notes. I was just curious. Someone else has leapt to the challenge and got themselves either a keeper, a loser, or a project. I've noticed, though, that real bargains -- where the seller undervalues the instrument -- are very rare and they generally get snapped up. Then there's the "Antique trumpet, found hanging on the barn wall, bell missing -- $299 obo, no lowballs" variety.
Members TimOBrien
For $65 you can get it evaluated and if it's trash musically, make it into a lamp...
