Cure also confirmed to headline the HFStival at RFK with Modest Mouse, Violent Femmes and more... I can't wait. The Cure has had more influence on me than any single band in my life. I go to live shows to listen to the music in a great setting with super loud and clear sound and enjoy the great light shows that go with it. Nothing sounds better to me than a fresh version of "Lullaby" or "Plain Song" cranking out of a couple thousand watt sound system at a live venue with purple and orange lasers panning the crowd. Even if they play the songs just like the albums, I love those songs so I can definately be happy. To each his own. If either of you have seen the "Trilogy" DVD that they just released last year, I think you'd agree that they are still at the top of their game. That show is phenominal. I don't think Robert has much in the way of substance abuse problems anymore. He seems to have cleaned up alot. {censored}, I would pay $50 to see the Cure just out of pure respect because they have been such an inspiration and influence on me musically. "Disentigration" is easily up there with "Dark Side of The Moon" as one of the greatest complete conceptual albums of all time. Robert Smith is a genius with many masterpieces and has influenced just about any band you can think of in rock today. Sorry, I'm ranting. Robert Smith is my musical idol. wow, that does sound like a hopeful lineup I've kinda gotten away from the cure a little bit through the wild mood swings, bloodflowers and endless repackages of older material. They are still one of the all time great bands and I'd love to catch them if i can get the chance. They were a little boring the last time i saw them. I was obsessed with Disintegration for years. Saw them in the summer of '90 in Innsbruck, Austria for the Prayer Tour and again in the summer of '92 in Phoenix for the Wish Tour. Utterly fantastic-- you could literally see masses of people shaking off spinal chills during "Pictures of You" and the brilliant 15-minute epic "A Forest". Unfortunately, I've been disappointed with every Cure record after Wish. Ross Robinson is producing their new one-- he's best known for manning the board for Slipknot and Korn. Should be interesting. Here in the Uk people are more excited by the fact that Mr Smiths old sparring partner is touring once more, with a new album in tow. Step forward....Manchester's finest Morrisey! Plain Song, Pictures of You, LoveSong, Closedown... that album flows like no other and regardless of the playful lyrics, Lullaby is a PHENOMINAL peice of music. No one else sounded like that when Disintegration came out. I've ready many many reviews which put Disentigration up there as one of the greatest complete albums of all time. I agree that Kiss Me x3 was phenominal as well and that may be my overall fav Cure album, but I still think Disentigration holds up the best as a complete record. I don't think that the Cure have ever sold out. They've always seemed to do things their own way. Members Paolo Di Nicolantonio Posted April 19, 2004 Members Share Posted April 19, 2004 While back in the '80s I liked some of their songs (Close to me, Boys don't cry, Lovecats, Love Song) at a compositional/harmonic level, I always found Robert Smith's voice ANNOYING. He sounds like he's always complaining and sad. Many of my friends loved them but it was because they wanted to be "cool" and be part of the "Dark Movement", dressing in black and all... Oh well.
