Members C. Martin
What would you pick: Yamaha Tyros or Kurzweil K2661? p120dUdE
Members The Pro
These two keyboards are completely different from each, like night and day. They shouldn't be compared like this.
Members Synthoid
Isn't the Tyros one of those "cruiseship one-man band keyboards?" No serious programming......built in speakers. No comparison to the Kurzweil. Whoops....no built-in speakers, just read a review. Very pricey-OUCH!
Members ButtPirate
The K2661 would eat the tyros for lunch. A more accurate comparison would be a Technics kn7000 vs a Yamaha Tyros.
Members BfunQue
Don't wanna xplain.... but I'd pick a Tyros..... I wasn't that impressed when I played on a K2661 @ the Messe... Why the hell is that ribbon controller optional ?! ... and also... it didnt look as nice as a K2600... Now thats one Great Machine.... gotta have one of those someday (or a K2600R anyway) and yea, i agree... it's quite strange 2 compare these 2 monsters.... but anyhow.... Let's see other pplz replies.....
Members Kirumamoru
I think that if I had to decide today, I'd probably go with the Tyros. There's only one area in which the K2661 really has a clear and present advantage, and that is (not insignificantly) the fact that it can sample. There are some other reasons that I find the Tyros more attractive... but it's pretty close... ask me in a week and I might have changed my mind. Members Pilot
I'd pick a Tyros, but then I'm firmly down the Yamaha trail having done a lot with XG. Played a Tyros only the other day and was very impressed. Nice feel to the keyboard, the styles were very good and the sounds excellent. And there's a great deal of serious programming. Lots of DSPs with around 60 basic effects and up to 16 parameters per effect, multitimbral with layering of 18 voices and multipart with around 80 parameters for each midi channel. Much better than a lot of so-called workstations. Bryan
Members scubyfan
And the two people who voted for the Tyros are Yamaha zealots. I'm surprised the Pro didn't vote.

Members the otter
I would guess that anyone that voted for the Tyros doesn't get into sound design. I'm really sleepy right now, but I can't think of a more powerful synth than a K26xx series. Esspecially with the sampling option.
Members Pilot
As I pointed out, you can do a lot of sound design with 900 voices, several DSPs with over 60 effects per DSP, an a lot of layering. I think that's more than enough for anyone. Bryan
Members the otter
But where are the Waveshapers?
Members b3keys
Kurz K2661. Hands down. I will have mine next week!
Members Pilot
You can do a lot of waveshaping with LFO, ADSR, EQ, filters, resonance, vibrato, etc. and that's just the multipart. Bryan
Members aeon
Pilot: that is not what waveshaping is. he was talking about nonlinear transfer functions. cheers, aeon oh, my vote...get a MOTIF ES!
Members Pilot
I was aware of that. Just pointing out that you can modify sounds in many different ways - it's the end results that count. And as The Pro says, these two keyboards are like chalk and cheese - you can't really compare them. Both are good in their own right - depends on your application. Ok - given a choice between the Tyros and the K2661, I'd vote for the Yamaha 9000 Pro... because it isn't a two-keyboard world.
