Members Enigmatic
I am looking for a portable MIDI module that would be able to play MIDI files. I have been looking around, but have yet to find. The yamaha MU rack units seemed tempting, but it's not capable of playing MIDI files because it lacks a sequencer. The Motif rack units would have been perfect, but they lack the ability to play MIDI files. Is there any dedicated hardware sequencers under $500-$600 that would produce decent GM sounds? That would make my life so much easier and freeing my motif for Live use...

Members Meatball Fulton
Yamaha CS6r has a MIDI file playback sequencer, of course you'll have to locate a used one as well as some Smart Media cards to hold the sequences.
Members heroesforghosts
I believe the Roland Fantom rack synth has a sequencer.
Members Enigmatic
Thanks guys. The Roland SonicCell seems very tempting, but do i need to buy additional SRX cards for basic MIDI sounds? If not, I will probably settle for a used EX rack. How about the MPC sequencers? Do they have a build in synth or is does it depend on an external sound engine? Thanks.
Members The Audacity Works
Thanks guys. The Roland SonicCell seems very tempting, but do i need to buy additional SRX cards for basic MIDI sounds?Nope. Most all Roland, Korg, and Yamaha modules have a GM2 (or GS) bank of General MIDI sounds.
