  • Yamaha TX802 scale problem!

    Hello.

I have a "new" TX802 module (DX7) from Yamaha, purchased in ebay some time ago.
Since first time i played it there's a big problem:
Not every keys are receiving midi! Example: I have sound in C, D, E, F#, G#, A#, but only this! In every octave, every presets. It's like a "tonal scale" (not sure how to spell in english). There are no semi-tones; only normal 1 tone interval.
Can't find any function to control this and a factory reset didn't solved the problem!
    Any idea?
Is there any hiden function for this? What's happening?!

PS - I don't have any cartridge. Need any?

I'm at work and can't walk you through it in detail, but the problem is that in MIDI utility mode your unit is set to receive on every other note -- this needs to be switched to "all"...

The point of this feature is to expand polyphony by combining 2 units with different settings (one odd notes, the other even) back when polyphony was at a premium.

It doesn't appear that there is a real problem with your unit.

Thanks. Yes, it was that! I'm a total newbe in this module!

Another thing: Some sounds have strange characters, like chinese or whatever it can be!
To restore the factory sounds do i need any cartridge? Or there are sysex files i can dump from cubase?

        Thanks again!

Sounds like battery. DX7s MK1s and MK11s do that when the battery is dead.

            OK, suspected that too.

            Last thing: (i hope)
after some google, seems that battery replacement is not easy in tx802.
Do i realy need to replace battery holder too??! or just the battery?

The battery is soldered to the motherboard, so many who replace batteries in DX and TX synths will install a battery holder to make future battery replacements easier.

The TX802 has 2 banks of preset voices in ROM, plus 1 RAM bank (internal), and a performance bank. Do you see funny characters in just the performance bank, or just the internal voice bank, or all?

You could try loading any sysex file of DX7 patches. You can find them all over the 'net.
Playing synths means never having to worry about broken strings.

It's happening only in the "int" banks. Seems bad battery.
Opened the unit and saw the original solded battery.
I'll take it to technical service here in the city in the next few days.

                Thanks all!

Sweet! Both of those are great synths, but are completely different from each other in terms of sound quality. MKS-80 is a great lead and bass machine, and the 70 is pad heaven.

What other synths do you have? You might want to grab a D-50/550, you can layer it with your 802 for some 80s synth heaven.

                        Nice !

Yeah, you need some analog of digilog at least. M1R would be redundant though.
