Looking for new MIDI keyboard need advice

I'm a total noob to playing piano. But I have been playing drums for 6 years so I have music experience. But I'm determined to start playing and recording. By the way I did see the sticky where it said to some search. I did search and I found some information but I'd rather post for my own specific needs.

First of all my budget is around 200$ unless if I could spend a little more money and get something way better then please say so.

I am going to use this keyboard for recording and playing with beats, making my own songs, making songs that I can play along with for fun etc.

I am going to use this keyboard strickly for techno. I dont care at all how the regular piano sounds like because I will almost never use it. If you want to see what type of style of music I want to play look up Ronald Jenkees on youtube (you should look him up anyway because he has amazing talent and creates amazing music).

I dont think I need speakers on the keyboard because I'm only playing this at home and I'm always going to be hooked up to my computer anyway (implus I'd rather spend the money on a better quality keyboard then a keyboard with speakers)

I think I want something with atleast 61 keys I don't think i'd want anything any smaller because I will never be traveling with this keyboard.

Also something that isn't extremely complicated would help unless this is going to limit me a ton.

Thanks and once again sorry if I'm not searching enough but I looked through 20+ pages and wasn't satisfied enough.

$200 won't get you much, unless you shift most of the duties of generating sound and sequencing to your computer. Audio interface + controller keyboard + DAW software - what are you willing to spend at most?

$50 for a secondhand Audiophile 2496, $149 for a 61-key controller with at least a few knobs, and $?? for the software - you can go a long way with a basic version of FL Studio, Cubase, Reaper - anything like that.

As for techno; that of course depends on the plugins you're going to use, but again; plugins don't care what music you make with 'm. There are several excellent completely free synths - and while they don't come with a selection of presets you can serve directly, learning how to use them gets you the results you want.

I already have the basic version of FL studio :) but what do you mean by free synths? I heard M-Audio makes decent midi keyboards that are cheap. Ive also heard many techno players get Rolands

I mean free software synths:

- http://www.vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php (but you may already have enough use in FL Studio's included sampler).

Ive also heard many techno players get Rolands

But Roland makes a wide range of products, and the TR909/TB303 are pretty much automatically associated with techno and acid.

Second-hand Novation X-Station 25's go for around $250. This keyboard is a stand-alone synth plus a MIDI and audio interface all in one. It can even draw it's power over the USB cable. This is the best all-in-one keyboard/interface solution to a limited budget that I know of... and since it's a stand-alone synth you can also learn the basic principles of additive synthesizing while you're at it.

To clarify: if someone here says "I've got a keyboard", people ask "which one". If someone says "I want a Korg", people ask "which one".

Being specific with brands and models is kind of a requirement, so "many techno players choose Roland" doesn't mean anything - since there's a lot of techno and a lot of Roland.

Software - http://www.sequel-music.net/home.html (100$ at sam ash)

Midi Controller - http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-KeyRig-49-USB-Keyboard?sku=700932

or if you are willing to blow a bit more money,

http://www.emu.com/products/welcome.asp?category=532

both of these have usb connectivity, so you wont need a midi / audio interface until later.

i tried to stay as close as your budget as possible. but if you are willing to spend a bit more, i can recommend some other stuff :)

Also if you are looking to save money, you should looking into a 61/49 key midi controller, I dont think an 88 will be necessary unless you are playing stuff specifically written for piano.

as long as they have octave switches you will be ok with a 49 or 61,

i play synth in a band and i use a 49 key roland sh 201 and im ok. (we play electro-rock type stuff)
