Members Nightsynth Posted December 16, 2009 Members Share Posted December 16, 2009 Has anyone tried this disc from Pro-Rec? http://www.cafepress.com/zzizzle/154081 Someone posted a link to all of the Fairlight sample discs here on HC, but the quality was pretty poor and some samples were looped. For those who like to point out the obvious, I realize this was an 8-bit sampler and fidelity is not going to be high, but I would bet there are better recordings of these samples than the ones posted here. Are they well sampled, good quality recordings of the originals. I hope they are better than the ones I downloaded. Though I appreciate the effort of whomever it was that did those and thanks for uploading the whole library for us to check out. The loops aren't so hot (but apparently they are the original loop points), but also it seems as if the author sampled at arbitrary intervals that sometimes have no correlation to the original pitch. They might be handy for recreating the sound of the fairlight itself if there were more multisamples, but in the absence of extensive multisampling I think the actual PCM data would be the most useful (although somewhat of a technical challenge). Multi sampling would be helpful to clear up some of the fidelity loss (esp. in the lower octaves), but I think the recording of the samples is pretty lousy on that set in the download. Yeah, capturing the PCM data would be the best. Probably not very likely easy to do. I think I'm gonna have to give this Pro-Rec library a spin. That would suck if it's just the same recordings. Nobody's tried this yet? OPEN OCEAN, these are just .wav files. Not any specific sampler format.
