  • Roland String Ensemble

I have a Roland string ensemble (single space sample module) from a long time ago in a land far far away which I stopped using because it sucked. Just the other day I hooked it up for some layering and relearning issues aside, I'm happy to report that it still sucks.

SE-1. It's really clunky besides the bad samples.

Whoa you got me on that one! lol
I never heard of it but I guess it's from the same era as those Expansion modules.

Yup same line; just the strings. I'm now using a string patch from a Yamaha MU 80 instead. I was never a fan of piano with a string layer but turns out it's perfect for practice where long notes would otherwise die out.

Yes that's it. It's been staring back at me for years. Never paid attention to the model #. I guess the M is for module?

                I think so, yes.

I hadn't heard one for years so I went looking and found the onboard demos online. It didn't sound too atrocious to me, considering it's a 90s era module.

I really like the Vintage Synth module. It sounds better than the 1080/2080, maybe because it's optimized for the unit? It doesn't have the aliasing/distortion problem the JV's have.

The demos sound fine. I think they started with the demos and deconstructed them to make the soundset.
