  • Woldorf Micro Q

    Hi all

I got this one but some of the patches play distorted or sound like there is a digital noise in there, but others play normally, so what may be wrong with this one ?

I have owned a micro Q and own a Q keyboard and a Blofeld desktop right now (and Waldorf Largo too). These synthesizers can distort at various stages of the architecture. I have found that I have to watch gain staging at the mixer, ring modulator, filter drive, and amplifier stages. There are times when increasing the ring modulation leads to distortion. I think that the filter drive section is intended to distort in a pleasant analog-like way, but too much can in some cases push you into more of a digital noise sound. I think that the other sections are intended to allow for headroom as needed depending on the patch. I usually start a new patch with everything set at about 100 / 127 (or close to 80% max) to allow some headroom. Finally, I think that some people actually like the digital noise sound and make it intentionally, but it sounds like what you are hearing is not that.
