Quick question about Roland SC-88 Pro

I'm looking for a composing aid to use away from the computer,

and there's a few cheap sound canvas units in my vicinity.

 

I can get a particularly mint SC-88 Pro for not much Serbistan money.

 

However, I'm unable to find an answer using Google: what are the audio

inputs on the back used for?

For the same money, you can also consider Roland JV-1080, which is just about superior in everything, plus it has a huge library available in various places in internet.

The sound canvas pro is decent for midifiles, multiple parts, fillins and such. If it is mint and cheap, go for it; it is definitely compact and easy to use. I do agree the 1080 is pro and a superior machine, just depends on what you want/need.

And sure enough there is a jv-1080 (decently priced) in the classifieds.

 

now it's up to me to decide whether to go for 'more compact' or 'better sounding'...

fusebop, it's very easy to layer sounds with JV (up to 16 layers, by key and/or velocity) . the effects sound very good.

if u want compact, but features of JV with better UI, try to search for Korg NS5R or Korg NX5R

Great review! This would be a useful piece for bread and butter sounds for cheap and lack of space. Some of the soundcanvas sounds are in my GM sounds on my Juno GI and they often get used as a safe and quick fix or to layer with something else, proving the staying power of the the GS format.
