That extra movement seems like it would reduce speed and accuracy. With traditional aftertouch, your hand movement stays in the same plane as key velocity, so I imagine it would be easier to control. I don't think it ever got produced though, probably cost prohibitive and too complex. I assume the one above measures change events.
