I'm all for flavor. I'm also all for learning to get along with people you don't like.

I get the gist of what you're saying; something new is learned or a new friendship is made as the outcome of a thread that was started as a rant, meant to be offensive etc.

I agree, those can be and were good times. I mean, I'll never forget purity's "I drank my own pee" incident. And I do miss the days the days when I'd drive home from work wondering what happened in the thread during the drive and wanting to see for myself when I got home.

What I don't miss are the people that did nothing other than detract from the forum or who never posted unless it was to beat the same drum over the same issues.

What I do miss are all those people with the some really in depth and niche knowledge. I think largely that's been the casualty here.

I agree too the technical issues have killed the forum. Many of lost accounts the first time around, me included. Then there was the new look.. etc. Plus some of the arguments here got too personal. I agree with that. We somehow seemed to not get the gentlemanly adversary type relationship they enjoy at GS so much..
Give me my moog, but **** off you american techno rockstar! people in countries I've never been to do it better than you!

Now ... Nothing surprises, excites or inflames anyone or anything here anymore ... And as many of the frequent recent posters would assert, that's how they like it ... Well, enjoy your dying forum ...

I really don't think that's the problem. And I'm anything but conservative. As Michael (Keyboardwizard) pointed out before, there's just less noise. I don't have a problem with that. There are still plenty of interesting people here. In fact, I'd wager to say that you're all interesting if I really got to know you. Who can judge a personality "boring" or "interesting" based on posts on a musician forum? I think that's a bit presumptuous.

Some people have what psychologists call low-gain personalities. They like (or require) a lot of external activity and clamor, and are more easily bored when there isn't constant stimulation.

Other people have high-gain personalities. They don't require constant outward stimulation to be entertained. They also tend to be more creative and have a richer inner life.

So if you're that hungry for outlandish behavior -- which frankly did nothing to add flavor or substance to the discourse here -- then try to woo people like Pighood back to the forum.

But personally, I think that people like Gribs, Bernard, Keyboardwizard, Suit and Tie Guy, Christian Rock, Pogo, Dave Weiser, Lilith, Mate Stubb, MartinHines, Electric Puppy, Gus, Acid Hazard, evildragon, cygnus, metrosonus, xanderbeanz, and numerous others (I'm forgetting a lot of names at the moment) are excellent contributors here.

You should run a full check but when I did there were seven in here:

A common way in... Recommend at the very least run your Virus check in that area...

                  I am boring.

I just don't want to make trouble here. I make BIG trouble elsewhere from time-to-time, and have succeeded at getting myself unfriended or put on ignore by a significant number of people on Facebook.

...Music can be used to stimulate mass emotion, while mathematics cannot; and musical incapacity is recognized (no doubt rightly) as mildly discreditable, whereas most people are so frightened of the name of mathematics that they are ready, quite unaffectedly, to exaggerate their own mathematical stupidity.

I admit to being boring. I also admit to having run out of things to say without feeling like I've already said them, so... there ya go. That's not to say, though, that I intend to enforce my boredom on everyone else. I try to be loose-ish. Somewhat.

I have to be honest... I joined here 9 years ago and since 2009 I talk synths and keyboard setups in other forums. The reason? Any respectable gear questions are usually dropped off the front page in a matter of hours yet the 'Hai Guys' thread clocks in a post every 8 seconds. Just being honest here. This forum is no longer a resource for collaboration and information. It's sorta a place to just hang out. And that is a problem in itself. I gig all the time. I love talking gear and finding solutions. I gather many here don't perform live or have much experience doing so. So their advice from a bedroom or studio setup has little connection to a live setup that is mobile every weekend. Of course most people are good natured despite their gear prejudices... but mostly I find people here like to talk in general rather than specifics. So when I'm looking for answers I usually go elsewhere. It might take me 2 weeks for a reply on Roland Clan or Triton Forums, but usually the answer comes with some helpful advice or some valuable insight.

In short form: I come here mostly for the Lolz. And this place usually delivers even though my participation is limited.

Gribs, EP, you are underestimating yourselves. Not posting, or posting dull things is boring. You guys post mostly interesting and well thought out stuff. Well, Gribs does anyway.

Just because you don't post about drinking your own pee or how you ejaculated on some guy in a kayak doesn't make you boring.

I think that's the point most forums reach eventually.. people begin to feel like they're retreading the same ground over and over. But it's at that point that you just have to throw stuff out there now and again just cause someone may read it or get something out of it.

I joined this forum about 6 1/2 years ago, and lurked on and off for several years before that. I come here mainly because I'm interested in where sound synthesis is going, and I like to hear others' views on the technology itself. It's an exciting time to be in our particular field of music making. Stylistically and technologically, electronic music technology has pretty much overtaken modern commercial music.

I'm amazed that guitar forums still get so much more traffic than synth forums do, since the guitar as an instrument doesn't fundamentally change. Meanwhile, the synthesizer and workstation are being reinvented all the time. To my mind, with all of the rapid change we're seeing, there's much more to talk about in our field than just about any other. It could just be that guitar players are more outgoing, while synth players tend to be more reclusive.

I also think that some of you underestimate how worthwhile and interesting your points of view are. After I ceased my own involvement in commercial music production in the late 90s, I fell out of touch with most of the synth people I used to know. I more or less receded into my studio and continued writing and playing, and didn't have as much contact with other keyboardists. The result was that I had come to expect that most of the people around me weren't interested in this stuff. In that regard, HC has been a breath of fresh air.
