My guess is that we'll see an XF replacement in 2014. And my next guess is that people will bitch about it. ;-)

In the mean time, sure, they can sell both. The XF is still a much more fully featured and "pro" board. It will probably still have these differences:

* sampling

* better quality keybed

* aftertouch

* large color screen that presents much more info

* 8 control sliders (versus zero)

* 8 insert effects (versus 3 in the MOX, we'll see if the MOXF changes that at all)

* assignable outputs

* additional foot controller

* ethernet, ieee, wifi interfaces

* ribbon controller

* additional patch select buttons

* possibly the second flash card slot (I'm going to guess that the MOXF will only have one)

* availability of 76 key version

* 128 mb RAM (it's there mostly for sampling, but it's also useful for quick auditioning of sounds without having to go through the time consuming burn to flash)

* rugged metal casing

* internal power supply (versus wall wart)

and probably some I missed.

Hi bernard.

any pics of the moxf? Does that mean we will be seeing xf's successor at same time ? Doubtful that yamaha will sell both.

I did search for pics, but they were not that leaky by the looks ;-)

I suspect the new XF will follow.

As AnotherScott points out still lots of space for both and I think good timing in the market to up the MOX against the competition that offer lots on paper, it then comes down to which sounds you prefer.

Apologies for any errors but this set of features shows the typical pecking order:

MM:

Reverb         25 types

Chorus         30 types

Master EQ     5 types

MX:

Reverb x 9 types (42 presets),

Chorus x 17 types (88 presets),

Insertion Effect x 48 types (267 presets) x 4,

Master EQ (5 bands)

MOX:

Reverb x 9 types,

Chorus x 22 types,

Insertion (A, B) x 54 types x 3 parts,

Vocoder x 1 (uses both Insertion Effect A and B blocks),

Master Effect x 9 types,

Master EQ (5 bands),

Part EQ (3 bands, stereo)

XF:

Reverb x 9 types,

Chorus x 22 types,

Insertion (A, B) x 53 types x 8 Parts (up to 16 units),

Vocoder x 1 (uses both Insertion Effect A and B blocks),

Master Effect x 9 types (Preset settings for parameters of each effect type are provided as templates; total 320)

Master EQ (5 bands),

Part EQ (3 bands, stereo)

There is now cp4 which has motif sounds. Could that be s90's replacement ?

Yeah, the S90XS is losing its edge. Compared to the CP5/50, the S90XS had advantages in price, weight, simpler interface, mod wheel, but the CP4/40 eliminate all those advantages. Ths S90XS still has the complete Motif XS soundset (as opposed to only a subset in the CP4/40/5/50), and it has aftertouch, I think that's about it.
