Friends of mine just got one of these, for the vocalist to play. They needed something small. I recommended a number of options and the MX-49 is what they picked. When I finally saw it I was amazed at how small and light a package it is, and still the sounds are remarkably good. The keyboard action is what you'd expect for such a small and light device; not what I'd want for playing piano but nonetheless I did enjoy playing piano on it when I sat in with them recently for a couple songs.

It was about the weight of a computer keyboard!

I don't play keyboards that compete in this market segment, so I can't compare it to its likely competitors. It uses a stripped-down version of the Motif sound engine and sound set.

One nice feature is that you can set up 16 sounds in a "Performance", and when you do, you can switch between any of these sounds instantly, without old notes cutting out (a feature often called "patch remain").
