So is it possible to import a shared patch using just iPad (without connecting to a computer)? If so, could someone step thru it? Did the users manual or help get updated to reflect update?

Yes. Just tap on the file and you'll be prompted to import it. As a test, it should work if you email a preset file to yourself and try to open it in email. It will also work off the ready reference site (very soon - once I get my MIME setting changed).

Look under My Tones / My Libary for the imported preset

I figured it out. Mediaman, your files seem to be mixed up. Tried to download Zztop bluejean blues, but got Pantera Gates of Hell. Tried to d/l Mysterious ways, and got my own "possum kingdom" (which isnt posted yet)

          • 15 min ago, I was using the method suggested by rm12, and was working (except for links mapping to wrong files). Now it no longer gives me a "download file" option?!

One thing I would love to see for each patch is a note on how people use it... through an amp (if so which amp, regular input or 4CM?) or a PA/powered speakers. I know that patches I use through my Hotrod Deluxe are very different from those I use through a PA. And maybe even what guitar, or at least whether the patch was created for single-coil or humbucker. Just a thought. Anyway, really looking forward to playing with all of this.

                !

Ability to do so is now there. Just gotta keep in to a short one liner. See example from TerryMcG.

Actually, it looks like the Description field can hold quite a long bit of text - possibly unlimited. It's just that to see it (in Nexus at least), you have to touch the description text to bring up the editing box which allows you to scroll the full text. If the description field is parsed out of the header, it could be shown in full somehow on the ready reference site. I would suggest a popup box by touching a (new field - sorry MediaMan!) called description. (Let me know if you need some help on this. I can do the display part in a few minutes using jquery. The parsing will take a bit of time though) But this is great to have a substantial place for notes - and already built in to the patch!

I hear ya, but my brain is pretty near full capacity as it is . It's a cool idea (most of your ideas are!) , but only if users actually use that description field for their own patches. Do they? Lets wait to see if there is interest.

P.S Is the MIME issue resolved for you? ( for me, I get XML on the desktop, but works great on the iPad, prompting me to open it or not).

Also the FS3X implementation is more than it seems on the surface. Right now it controls iTunes, but getting the hooks in to control 3rd-party apps, well, think about that for a bit.

You're killing me here. Please spell it out (since the help system wasn't yet updated for the app). I now see the DigiTech iPB-10 listed as "available" in almost all of my MIDI-enabled iOS apps. This includes Loopy HD! Loopy sees the iPB-10 as a MIDI control device, but I can't figure out how to make it all work. This would be absolutely HUGE if the iPB-10 could really start controlling other iOS apps (I asked for this very capability about 100 pages ago). I'm also seeing the iPB-10 in Alchemy and SoundPrism Pro (in their MIDI setup pages).

                      Please share!

BTW - I do have the FS3X, but I can't figure out how to make it do anything besides control the music player.

BBTW - Almost forgot that the MIDI Guitar app available for iPad also shows the iPB-10 as an available MIDI output device. That wasn't available before the update. Either I'm missing something obvious or the update didn't quite get "all the way there" for these apps to work directly with the iPB-10.

I use the description field and I think that it would make a lot of sense to include that in the listing.

                        • I have to admit that in all the excitement for the new release, I am disappointed that there wasn't a single new pedal included. I either want some new pedals made available or some hooks put into the iPB-10 so that we can use the iStomp library of available pedals.

                          • PIcking up the description field, let me also point out the folloiwng

To date we have been taking about Artist , Song ( and now Description)

But there is also Name. Its important, as when I imported U2/Mysterious Ways, I thought it didnt work...but I later found it under Edge-Mysterious Edit !

Name is easy to pull out as its part of the file name.

So I am going to start displaying that Name next.

Still open tot consider Description. paka, as thats your domain, perhaps we can test it off line to see if its even feasible

Yes! Working great now. One tweak I would suggest for everyone with special note to MediaMan: Make sure to name the patch something obvious and the name in the name column of Ready Ref site should match that exactly. I just downloaded Mysterious Ways but could not find it. After much head scratching and searching, I found it in Nexus with the title "Edge - Mysterious Edit".

We might want to go a bit further and adopt some naming conventions. For instance, if the patch is for a specific song, then always start the name of the patch with the song name, like "Mysterious Ways - Edge Edit". This becomes especially important as the library starts to grow, because Nexus, as of this update, does not allow sorting on artist or song, but only on Name. If it's a general sound like "Brian May Sound" then we can use the artist's name as the first word in the Name field, followed by a descriptive word like "sound" or "tone", etc. Not trying to get too anal here, but I think this library will grow quickly and I think it would become a nightmare if we all renamed the tones once that got into our own libraries. We won't know what we have vs. what we don't.

Another suggested convention: patch uploaders should probably include their user name somewhere in the Description field. Otherwise, we can get too patches with the same name and not know where they came from (Nexus will simply add "- Copy", etc.). Could also put that into the Artist field after the real aritst: "Edge/Illinidan". Maybe Mediaman can decide which conventions to use and put them in the instructions for uploading.

Add to suggestion box: Nexus: ability to sort patches on artist, song, genre.
