Members stratotak
I thought ceramics were like dark black and alinco's were like a grey??Was lookin gfor pickups on ebay, cheap pickups out of Hong Kong, and description says its Alinco but in pic the magnet is black. Was just wonderig because I was bored and bought a pre wired pickguard from one of those Hong Kong dealers and the pics show black magnets and I just assumed they were ceramic.Brand name are diesel which I have never heard off.Hell 20 bucks shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190595263244?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Members Wayne2
I always thought ceramics were bar-shaped like in your pic, i.e. one big bar for the entire pickup and steel pole pieces. AlNiCo pickups have the pole pieces themselves being the magnets.
Members Belva
As far as magnet color, I don't think it determines what composition the magnet is. Hell, for 20 bucks I don't care if they're dogpooium magnets. Can't beat that.

I bought a set of those $16 GFS bulk ceramic single coil set they have In there clearance section a while back and they didnt sound that bad. So figured they probably be about the same.Ive never heard of Diesle pickups but after looking them up their basically same as GFS stuff. This store on ebay sells them..http://stores.ebay.com/CHOPPERS-MUSIC/PICKUPS-/_i.html?_fsub=6&_sid=38603249&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
Members WRGKMC
Alnico os silver in color because of the nickle. Anything else thats dark is ceramic. You can tell ceramic because its very hard and can be chipped. Those imports may be painted over to prevent vibration and chipping.
