Hollow-necked guitar

Travis Bean guitars (http://www.travisbeanguitars.com/) had hollow metal necks, but so far as I know they were all fronted with conventional fingerboards.

 

Then there's this very strange bird (http://www.en-derin.com/technology/gittler-guitar-features-striking-minimalist-design-with-ergonomic-features#)... sort of a sitar-like thing, with no fingerboard. But the frets are still fixed.

Hey Rabbit,

Before I clicked on that link, I knew exactly what I was going to see!

I saw one of those things in some guitar mag back in the 1980's.

From your description it came to my mind and then, lo and behold.
