Phil O'Keefe
Tracktion is now up to version 6 for paying customers, but I just found out that they offer version 4 in full form - uncrippled and fully functional - as a free download. Pretty cool! http://www.tracktion.com/
Members Nijyo
I don't know much about Tracktion. Are there any show-stopper "missing features" in 4 that someone with moderate DAW experience would really miss?
Phil O'Keefe
I'm not that familiar with the differences in the various versions... but since it's free, why not just download it and check it out? If it's not for you, all it will have cost you is a bit of time.
Members erok123
Thanks, Phil. I'll give it a shot.
Phil O'Keefe
Cheers erok - please let us know what you think of it.
Members erok123
First thing that popped up was a dialog to unlock it, so I uninstalled it. If they are going to make it free, it needs to be free all the way, IMHO.
Members Anderton
They probably want your email so they can try to upsell you to the latest version if you like it. AFAIC the coolest thing about Tracktion is that you can run plug-ins in series/parallel...sort of like a built-in version of the VBox that BIAS used to make. Phil O'Keefe
I think that's it Craig - it's free, but they do want your name and email address; no doubt to try to get people to buy in to the latest version. I think they're up to version six now.

Are there any show-stopper "missing features" in 4 that someone with moderate DAW experience would really miss? What, I can't make someone else do my research for me? Still, my email address isn't precious to me. I'll have to check it out when I have some time. Thanks!
Phil O'Keefe
Erok, you could always use a throwaway email address for stuff like this. Create a Gmail account or Yahoo email account and use that (instead of your regular email address) whenever you sign up for stuff where you're worried they might spam you. Phil O'Keefe
What, I can't make someone else do my research for me? Sorry... I'm not that familiar with Tracktion.
Members BushmasterM4
I've been a Tracktion user since Tracktion 2. Very unique DAW and very user friendly. I have ProTools 10, 11 also, but find it so uninspiring and the GUI clunky. I have a free upgrade to PT12 but I not even going to install it. I have Reaper also, and while its friendlier than PT, it doesn't compare to Tracktions ease of use. Tracktion is a "Musicians" DAW. Meaning you don't have to be a "Programmer" to figure {censored} out. I would recommend going through the registration process to unlock the free version of Tracktion 4 and give it a try. I've tried about all the DAW's out there and always go back to Tracktion. If you do try it and have any questions pm me and or visit Tracktions forum over at http://www.kvraudio.com
