Members timmit65
Why yes that is a Mac Mini on top of a studio monitor. Is this a bad idea? I remember when monitors (neither CRTs or Studio Monitors were shielded) weren't safe to put near one another, but in today's world is this O.K.? I have a limited amount of room and this would be very convenient. What say ye?
Phil O'Keefe
Magnetic media and magnets are not good together... I'd be very nervous about that setup. I'm not saying it will definitely cause issues, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that arrangement unless I checked it myself with a gaussmeter / magnetometer and knew that the readings were low enough so as not to cause problems with the Mac's HDD. You wouldn't catch me putting a 2" master tape on top of a "shielded" studio monitor for the same reason. It might not cause problems, but why take the risk? I know it would be a convenient spot for you, but until I knew it was safe for sure, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it.
Members the fall
As Phil said magnetic media near magnets is sketchy at best, there has to be a better spot in your studio for it. I mean it is mini!
