Need help with a small recording set-up

I'm in the middle of putting together something that can be used for my own use and also at the same time be able to record a small band when needed.

I'm not gonna get into the computer end of things.. I'm good in the dept. and really just looking at the outboard end of things to add in the rack.

I'm using a tascam us-1641 interface. Its got 8 xlr inputs and the rest trs type. 10 of the channels have its own preamp knobs the rest do not. However the remaing 4 have switches to make it line level or instrument level.

My main question the remaining channels( Which are 4) I was wondering if I could add tube mic preamps.. amp modelers like the line 6?

One thing that comes to mind is a patch bay. I figure it would be handy in situations.. when needed. Also make switching out a lot easier.

Also I have 4 outs... what would these be used for? Headphone amps?

Feel free to comment or suggest items.. Maybe even explain a few things to help me out.
