Members UstadKhanAli
Some of you may already be familiar with Ed Gerhard. I went to see him at Boulevard Music in Culver City last night. Apparently he was in town for NAMM, but did a gig a bit north from there. Anyway, his playing is superb, his songs (or arrangement of songs) gorgeous, and the way his notes hang in the air sometimes, rather emotional. Here's a version of "Killing The Blues" that I found from an earlier performance.
Members blue2blue
I really like the way he sort of just drifts into it... I didn't even recognize the initial melody until not long before the chorus. I so appreciate the low-key approach, so many solo guitarists (like moi) are always trying to fill every moment with (often messy) detail or trying to impress (in my case a particularly quixotic attempt). Gerhard just kind of does what the songs/melodies require.
Members UstadKhanAli
To me, he just has such exquisite taste in how he writes or reinterprets a song. His phrasing, not overplaying or overdoing the song, and letting the song unfold. It's a real treat to see him in person especially.
