Shazam!

Has anyone here had Shazam.com show up in their stats?

Looking at my Youtube stats, I noticed one song was hit by Shazam.com a few times last month

from different locations in the US. I don't know what that means exactly.

Shazam is song recognition software. I have it on my smart phone. If you don't know the name of a song,

open the Shazam app. It listens for under a minute and then tells you song, record, artist, etc.

I don't know what it means for Shazam to show up in my Youtube stats.

I think it means - a few listeners heard that song somewhere and tried to identify it using Shazam.

That's a first. And I have no idea where the recording was playing either.

I guess that's another measure of success in the life of a musician in our time.

In the old days, musicians made money. Today, it's about Youtube hits,

how many people are pirating your music and now - Shazam.

Shazam is on Android too. But it doesn't direct me to iTunes. It just tries to identify the tune.

This incident is mysterious to me. When I use Shazam, I hold my Android phone up to the speaker or source of the music. The app listens and tries to identify. It does not visit the page itself. It just listens. It doesn't know where the source is. That's why I'm a little baffled by this incident.

Maybe people go to the Shazam website and from there, visit youtube or some other site to listen to music.

IDK. It's odd.
