The 49-year-old illusionist was walking with two female assistants to their tour bus after his show Sunday at a performing arts center when four teens pulled up in a black car, a police report said. Two armed robbers allegedly got out of the car and demanded the group's belongings. One woman handed over $400 from her pockets and the other gave up her purse with 200 euros, $100, her passport, plane tickets and a cell phone. Copperfield refused to empty his pockets, the report said. Copperfield says he turned his pockets inside out to reveal nothing in them, even though he was carrying his passport, wallet and cell phone. "Call it reverse pickpocketing," Copperfield told The Palm Beach Post for Wednesday's editions. Copperfield read the license plate number of the car to an assistant while she called 911, the report said. Four teenagers were arrested and charged with armed robbery. If you pull your pockets out 'correctly' you can seem to show them empty, even as a wallet or other object is pushed up into the corner away from the opening... I tried that once in Jr High with the thug who kept trying to rob me (the one time I reported him it got me a beating... when I reported the beating they said, well boys will be boys... get back to us if he steals something again)... it worked pretty good until he saw me buy lunch a few hours later. He walked up in back of me and smacked me on the back of the head as he walked by... Did I mention he was the size of a full grown line backer -- and a football star at the jr high, so he got a free pass on almost everything. This was a give-the-kids-steroids school so little things like strong arm theft, bullying, and beatings were pretty much insconsequential to the administration... they just didn't care. (Later, 6 of the 7 school board members were arrested on a number of corruption and other charges. Five were convicted. Orange Unified School District in OC (CA)... a HELL of a school district to this day, from what I'm told.) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
